VOR Receiver

Aviation navigation beacons

#receive#aviation#vor#navigation#airband

What it does

Simple

Before GPS, planes found their way using ground beacons called VOR. Each beacon sends a signal that tells a plane which direction it is from the beacon. This newer app (added in 2026) can receive those beacons and show that bearing.

How it works

Simple

The beacon sends two signals; the tiny timing difference between them tells you which direction you are from the beacon, like a compass made of radio.

How to use it, step by step

Simple
  1. Open 'VOR RX'.
  2. Tune to a VOR beacon frequency near an airport.
  3. Read the direction it shows.

Examples

Find your radial

Tune a nearby VOR and see which radial you're sitting on relative to it.

Legacy nav lesson

Understand how pilots navigated by intersecting radials from two VORs.

Tips & things to try

  • VOR frequencies are published on aviation sectional charts.
  • Pairs conceptually with the new VOR TX app for a full send/receive picture.
